Request to Update Email Address/Username Due to Name Change

What is it?

Students, alumni, faculty and staff who marry, divorce, or, by court order, change their name and wish to change their email address can submit a ticket to make that change.

A Student must first change their name on their permanent academic record with the Registrar's Office. The student should submit a Change of Legal Name form to the Registrar's Office. The request must be accompanied by a social security card bearing the new name.

Faculty, staff, and student employees must first change their name with the Human Resources Department.

If you have not requested a change of legal name with the Social Security Administration, please apply for a new social security card with the nearest Social Security Office. Information on how to apply for, replace, or change your name on your social security card is available online at www.ssa.gov.

NOTE: Refer to the Preferred or Chosen Name, Gender Identity, and Pronoun Policy for changes not requiring a legal name change.

How long does it take?

Username changes may take 2 days to fully process.  Once the username change is started, you should be able to login with the new username in 2-4 hours.  Until this point, you can still login with your old username.  You may experience some issues with some systems for 2 days, but most things should be updated automatically within 2-4 hours.
