Transitioning Away from SMS/Voice Calls for MFA

SMS/voice call will no longer be available as Multifactor Authentication (MFA) methods on USI accounts. This is due to security vulnerabilities associated with these methods, such as SMS interception and social engineering. Safer, more convenient MFA options are available, including:

• Okta Verify - Using Okta Verify provides a quick and convenient way to approve MFA requests. You can verify access with a push notification sent to your device or by entering a code found on the app. Instructions - https://services.usi.edu/TDClient/315/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=9938
• USB Security Key- This method provides a physical way to verify access, requiring the USB key to be inserted into your device followed by the entry of a PIN. Instructions - https://services.usi.edu/TDClient/315/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=12863

USI recommends having more than one form of MFA set up in case one method becomes temporarily unavailable.
