How to setup Google Authenticator on your cell phone as a multifactor authentication (MFA) method for your USI account.

Before You Begin

You will need your cell phone with Google Authenticator installed and a computer.

You can download the Google Authenticator app from the Apple App Store (iPhone) or the Google Play Store (Android).

Steps

 1. Login to USI by going to https://weblogin.usi.edu

2.  Sign In with your current MFA option.

3. Click your name in the top right

4. Choose Settings

5. On the right – under Security Methods – find Google Authenticator and click Set up.

6.  Sign In with your current MFA option.

7. Click Set up.

You should now see a QR code

8. Start the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device and click the + icon

9. Choose Scan QR code - then scan it with your mobile device

10. Click Next

11. Enter the 6-digit code from the mobile device into the computer and click verify

 

Google Authenticator is now set up. The next time you are prompted for USI MFA, you can switch to Google Authenticator as your preferred 2nd factor.

Additional Info

You can have more than one form of secondary authentication.  USI recommends having more than one.
